Separated at graduation: The Boden triplets part ways for a great cause

Posted on: May 14th, 2018 by Our Team

In May 2018, triplet sisters Lauren, Stephanie, and Allison Boden graduated from Emory University School of Medicine, marking the first time they would be separated as they embarked on distinct residency programs in orthopedic surgery. Lauren matched with the University of Pennsylvania, Stephanie with the University of Pittsburgh, and Allison with the University of Miami.

The Boden sisters have consistently demonstrated academic excellence, graduating at the top of their class at Lakeside High School in Atlanta. Their decision to pursue orthopedic surgery—a field traditionally dominated by men—was influenced by their father, Dr. Scott Boden, a prominent orthopedic surgeon and academic leader at Emory University.

Their mother, Dr. Mary Caulfield Boden, expressed confidence in their readiness to pursue individual paths, noting that this separation was a natural progression in their personal and professional development. The sisters themselves acknowledged the significance of this transition, stating, “So now we are finally parting ways but we think that we are ready for it”.

This milestone was celebrated during Emory’s 173rd Commencement, which honored over 4,850 graduates from various disciplines. The ceremony featured a keynote address by Emory alumnus Michael Dubin, co-founder and CEO of Dollar Shave Club, who emphasized the importance of choices and embracing new perspectives in shaping one’s future.
