Dr. Allison Boden

Dr. Allison Boden, M.D. is a fellowship-trained orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon based in Louisville, Kentucky. She specializes in minimally invasive, arthroscopic, and advanced open reconstruction procedures of the foot and ankle and treats conditions ranging from sports-related injuries to degenerative foot and ankle conditions to trauma. She is an Associate Program Director for the University of Louisville Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program and is an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Louisville.

Training & Education

Dr. Boden grew up in Atlanta, Georgia with her family, including her triplet sisters, younger sister and younger brother. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at Pomona College, where she was on the varsity softball team as well as founding member and 3-year captain of the inaugural women’s golf team. She completed her medical degree at Emory University School of Medicine and went on to complete her Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Throughout her residency, she served on the Resident Education Committee, the Residency Application Review Committee, and the Orthopaedic Justice, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. She was voted by her peers to be the Academic Chief Resident for her PGY4 and PGY5 years. She won the Outstanding Resident of the Year Award in 2022 and the Outstanding Senior Resident of the Year Award in 2023. She then went on to complete her foot and ankle fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, one of the most highly regarded foot and ankle fellowships across the country and world.

Approach to Care

As a highly trained specialist in foot and ankle surgery, Dr. Boden’s philosophy of care is to provide high-quality surgical care via a patient-centered approach that emphasizes clear communication, shared decision-making and evidence-based medicine tailored to her patient’s condition and lifestyle. Whether through surgical or non-surgical intervention, her goals are to help restore mobility and function and enhance her patients’ quality of life. Dr. Boden and her team pride themselves on taking time with patients and customizing care to meet the individual needs of each patient. She creates a personalized treatment plan using minimally invasive, arthroscopic, or open techniques to get you back on your feet. Dr. Boden works closely with physical therapists, athletic trainers, primary care physicians, and other specialists as needed to ensure the best care translates to the best outcomes.

Research and Leadership

In addition to clinical care of patients, Dr. Boden enjoys conducting clinical and translational research to help optimize patient outcomes and impact patient lives beyond those she can treat with her own hands. She has authored over 40 peer reviewed journal publications, abstracts, and book chapters and has presented her work over 35 times nationally and internationally. Dr. Boden also serves as a reviewer for multiple medical journals including Foot & Ankle International (FAI), Foot & Ankle Orthopedics (FAO), and the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (JAAOS). In 2022, Dr. Boden was nominated to attend the C. McCollister Evarts Resident Leadership Forum and has since been recognized as an emerging leader in the field of Orthopedics by the American Orthopedic Association.

Service to Community

Dr. Boden is always looking for ways to give back to the community outside of the hospital. She has been passionate about education and mentorship and has served as a mentor for medical students and residents across the country since 2018. She is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), the Eastern Orthopedics Association (EOA), and the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) where she currently serves on the Women’s Leadership Committee. She also serves as a Faculty Advisor for the UofL Orthopedic Surgery Medical Student Interest Group.
